The July meeting was held at the East Lyme Town Hall and was opened at 7:10 p.m. by President Dan Shea.
Correction to minute from the
June meeting – 2nd paragraph: “The Secretary’s Minutes from the
informal June (should read as May) meeting were read.”
The Secretary’s Minutes from the informal June meeting were read.
Treasurer’s Report was read. There is a balance of $6,455.62. This includes a deposit of $3,000.00 from the Town of East Lyme.
Chris Green, Eagle Scout, and his group are now at the Fish Ladder at Latimer’s Brook doing the clean up. This should be completed by this weekend. A farmer has helped to pull out stumps with a tractor. Topsoil, mulch and processed gravel (for walking paths) have been placed at the site. Chris is also looking to purchase shrubs or possibly have them donated for this project. Once completed, the Fish Ladder will look great. We discussed planting daffodil bulbs at this site.
Picnic tables were still not placed at McCooks. Hold up?
The Pattagansett center island project has been cleaned up and weed whacked. We are not sure which person or group was responsible for this but it looks better than it has. It has been proposed that the ELBC disown this project due to the fact that it is too dangerous of an area for us to work. It was voted upon with all in agreement to end this ongoing project.
Although the gladiolas planted at the Town Hall did not do well, possibly due to the extreme heat, the baskets hanging at the Gazebo look fantastic.
The Butterfly Garden and the Municipal Lot on Hope Street were re-weeded in early July. Dan has someone who is in need of community hours who will continue to keep up with these areas.
The High School entrance that needs some help has been suspended. It seems that there is a lot of ledge in that area, which limits our options.
The trash receptacles at McCooks are still being talked about. With the Parks and Rec. Project being in the process, someone suggested that we have Sam Peretz come to a meeting to fill us in on the happenings so that nothing that we wish to do is duplicated. This subject is to be tabled until more information is obtained.
Val presented a catalog featuring matching benches and trash receptacles. As a group, we are considering these for the Town Green and removing the previous benches and placing them at McCooks. Some homework needs to be done. Answers from Sam Peretz, Chuck Holyfield, and the Company that makes the benches will help with our decision.
Sue Kraynak made a suggestion to have T-shirts made with the scallop logo and ELBC on the back to be worn when we are doing projects so that people know who we are when we are working out and about town. The idea was nixed.
Val proposed that the small plot outside of Town Hall should be something of a permanent nature. It has become a lot of work due to its’ lack of proximity to a water source. The cabbage patch was the best it has looked in the last few years. It was proposed to plant the area with blue fescue grass with ‘E L’ as a design. All in favor, one nay. If this does not work well we were all in agreement to plant the area with grass seed.
The meeting adjourned at 9:00 p.m. The next meeting will be held at the Town Hall on August 22nd at 7:00 pm. Guests and new members are always welcome.
Respectfully Submitted
