The August 22nd meeting was held at the East Lyme Town Hall and was opened at 7:10 p.m. by Vice President Kim Doucette.
Last month’s Secretary’s minutes were accepted as written.
Treasurer’s Report was read by Anne Marie Rogers and accepted as read. There is a balance of $5,078.62 in the checking account and $1,086.13 in Savings.
NOTE: Any purchases from Smiths Nursery must be dated and totaled.
OLD BUSINESS
Chris Green, Eagle Scout has finished his work at the Fish Ladder at Latimer’s
Brook. Congratulations Chris, looking very good.
Two picnic tables were placed at McCooks near the new bathhouse. Parks and Rec
will move one to the Butterfly Garden area. This garden is needin’ weedin’ one
more time before fall.
Gladiola bulbs have been pulled out at the Town Hall for replanting next year.
The benches on the Town Green are cemented in. Therefore, we cannot easily
replace them. Also probably not a good idea since they were donated by the
Lions Club in the past. We will ask if they will paint them black for aesthetic
reasons. We will also ask Chuck Holyfield if we can place two trash receptacles
nearby. Chuck would be responsible for emptying all trash receptacles around
town.
Vote taken for purchase of four trash receptacles. Bill should be around
$3,363.00. Suggestions for placement of each included at the Library, the
Corner of Hope and Methodist Streets and two on the Town Green. We will ask for
Chuck Holyfield’s opinion about placement.
NEW BUSINESS
A suggestion was made that we clean up and weed around the Niantic Center School
entrance before school starts next week. We were reminded that the Board of
Education is responsible for upkeep of the schools and our tax dollars pay for
this. Loretta will draft a letter from us to the Board of Ed and request their
attention to school grounds in and around town.
A letter will be written to Mr. Fraser requesting the removal of the glass
case/bulletin board located outside the Police Station announcing dog license
availability.
We will order 2500 yellow daffodil bulbs from Bourginon through their catalog
sales department to continue our effort to promote a Spring Daffodil Festival
throughout the Town of East Lyme in the near future. Several more will be added
to the hillside at McCooks Park.
Discussions regarding the rotting sign at the Thomas Lee House. If it can be
repaired we will leave it there and paint the legs black. Otherwise, we will
try and save the gold scallop shell for future use.
Was the Dime Savings Bank Grant ever submitted for next year?
The meeting adjourned at 8:05 p.m. The next meeting will be held at the Town
Hall on September 26th at 7:00 pm. Guests and new members are always
welcome.
Respectfully Submitted
