October 8, 2002

The September meeting was held at the East Lyme Town Hall and was opened at 7:15 p.m. by President Dan Shea.  Those in attendance were Loretta McIlhenny, Dottie Ferguson, Lynn Clarke and VP Kimberly Doucette.

The August Minutes were read and approved.

Treasurer’s Report was read.  There is a balance of  $5,581,00.

 OLD BUSINESS

Four trash receptacles have ordered.  Two of these shall be placed on the town green.  The Lions have been asked and have agreed to paint the metal on the benches black, to coordinate with the black trash receptacles.

A picnic table has been moved to the butterfly garden at McCook’s Park.  This is to entice families to spend quality time in this area of the park.  The view is spectacular.

The area of the municipal lot on Hope St. was weeded on Labor Day and well as the butterfly garden by Dot, Lynn, and Sue and Kim.

A letter has been sent to the Board of Education Assistant Superintendent, Parks and Recreation, and the Town Hall concerning the need to keep up areas around town that could use a little more TLC.  We, as ELBC, feel that if the areas were regularly mowed it would give the town a more presentable appearance.

Dottie called Town Hall and spoke with Darlene Stevens about the removal of the glass case in front of Town Hall.  The glass case is used for postings of events and meetings.

There is a memo in the case at the moment about dog license renewals as of May 12.  The case is not being maintained with memos or maintenance ( i.e. chipping paint).  It also doesn’t fit the décor.  A letter will be formed to address this issue.

An application was submitted to Dime Savings Bank for a grant and was denied.  Will reapply next year.  The funds will be used to benefit the boardwalk.

The town sign in front of the Thomas Lee House have been removed due to decay.  The scallop shell on the shell will be saved for future use.

 NEW BUSINESS

The daffodils have arrived!!!  All 2500 of them.  A phone poll was taken by ELBC members to donate 500 daffodils to the proposed Memorial Garden in New London in remembrance of the victims of 9/11, particularly Ruth and Juliana McCourt, who had close ties to East Lyme.  There was a unanimous vote on this.  These daffodils have already been dispersed to Gail Schwenker Mayer, a member of the New London Garden Club, who is a close friend of the McCourt family.  Gail is looking for a representative from the ELBC for the opening dedication of the McCourt Memorial Garden.

 Respectfully Submitted,

Kim
