Fall Happenings at East Lyme Youth Services
Our Student Planning Association (SPA), consisting of philanthropic 5th-8th graders, will return September 15th, 3-4 pm after school to start working on our yearly fall project, the Haunted House. Students get invaluable skills designing and creating projects. Leadership, delegation, good communication, working in teams, and the important feeling once a project is completed and successful helps to shape children to see community in a real and important way at this young age. We highly recommend this program for all 5th-8th graders!! Late bus is available Cost is $15/month and includes snack.
We are excited to announce that Mountain Bike Club will be a new addition this fall. Working in collaboration with Niantic Bay Bicycles, the club will meet after school at the shop and head out on trail rides with expert guides.  The start date will be September 29th and end November 17th. Just like Ski Club, The age range will be from 5th-12th graders. cost is $40 per member.
Open Center Tuesdays: Starting the first week of October. 3-4pm youth can walk right over to the Youth Center after school and hang out with their friends. Wide variety of games to play, foosball, ping pong, Â listening to music, watching movies or playing video games, cards...etc... Cost is $10/month and includes snack. Late bus is available.
Sitter Survival: Mondays starting October18th-November 29th after school 3-4pm followed by December 6th and 13th 3-6pm for CPR and First Aid Certification. Students get an introduction into the exciting world of babysitting, focus is on responsible engaging of children, reinforced by experts. Cost is $70 and includes CPR/First Aid instruction. Late bus is available.
Girls Circle: group limited to 8 girls in 7th - 8th grade. Group focuses on fun and positive growth and communication through relationships. Girls Circle will begin Thursdays after school 10/7-12/16 after school from 3-4pm in the Bay House conference room. Cost is $40. Late bus is available. for more information go to :www.girlscircle.com
SKI Club: Registration opens October18th. Ski Mount Southington Thursdays in January-February. Prices vary based on type of ticket purchased. Registration must be done in person. Transportation is available from the High School and Middle School sites with pick up at the Youth Center promptly at 9pm. This club is available to 5th-12th graders.
We are also working on a collaboration between ELYS and Gabriele's Karate Kick box to offer female self defense courses. The middle school group will be offered to Moms (or kids' choice) and daughters. The high school group will be available for female high school students. We are hoping to offer a six week course for a minimal fee. Please stay tuned for more specific information about fall after school programming and events. We will be at all of the ELMS Open Houses this September to provide information and answer any questions.
High School students are welcome to join the Student Advisory Board (SAB) in the fall as well. SAB organizes activities for peers, and does community service projects. Â SAB is completely run by students and has a representative from ELYS help facilitate. SAB meets during lunch in Mr. Beale's room. Dates and times will be announced.
If you are looking to hire a youth this fall, consider posting your job opening on our jobs bulletin board. Anything from babysitting to odd jobs to tutoring is welcome. We suggest you make an advertisement listing what you'd like done and how much you're willing to pay, along with your contact information. We are not endorsing any person or product advertised, or responsible for the outcome only the conduit for the match.
If you would like to offer your volunteer services, or provide a donation of kid friendly books or equipment, or have a suggestion on programming or activities, please give us a call. We'd love to hear from you! We would love a collapsible ping pong table, an air hockey table, Wii remotes and games...etc...You may have a treasure in your basement that we'd love to offer to the town's youth!!
