First Selectman’s Report August 2009

Mr. Formica said that he had formed a tree subcommittee chaired by Bob Ames and comprised of Bill Jezierski, Candy Shapiro and Al Burchsted to draft a tree ordinance for the town.

 

He also appointed a pension subcommittee to review the investment practice and the implementation of the pension comprised of Anna Johnson, Don Meltabarger, Allan Taylor, Jim LaFond, Nazz P    aciotti, Paul McDonough and himself.

 

He attended a ribbon cutting at a new branch of Liberty Bank.

 

He spoke at a SCORE luncheon, which is a group of very capable retired executives who still want to help out and stay involved.

 

He expressed his thanks to everyone who helped out and took part in Celebrate East Lyme, adding that the day was great, fireworks wonderful and approximately 25,000 people attended. He said that he helped raise over $400 from the dunking booth to benefit Kids Cansurvive.

 

He noted he was on vacation for a week and he is still waiting for a state budget. He added that once the state has a budget, perhaps the DOT would move on the light at Giants Neck Road.

 

He attended a Niantic River Advisory Board meeting and East Lyme along with the other surrounding towns who all touch on the river are going to work together to protect the valuable watershed.

 

He talked with Senator Dodd requesting his help on procuring a regional interconnection on water and I-95 improvements.

 

He met with Jane Dauphinais of SECHA and she will be on the Zoning agenda tomorrow evening regarding incentive housing zones.

 

The Capital Improvement Plan Subcommittee met and reviewed implementation of items on the plan. The subcommittee is comprised of Anna Johnson, Dave Putnam, Mike Giannattasio, Don Meltabarger, Kevin Seery and the Superintendent of Schools, Dr. Lombardo.

 

He was appointed to the COG Regional Water Committee and they are reviewing how towns work together on a long-term basis and connecting a regional water grid.

 

He attended the CT Seafood Advisory Council meeting.

 

He noted that our water supply is in good shape. He said we are under mandatory conservation and at present, our streams are 6-12 inches above our triggers. He said that the replacement wells would be on line soon along with the one at Darrow Pond. He added that the chlorination project has just completed a pre bid meeting with a lot of interest shown.
