Mr. Formica said that he attended the retirement party for Joe Raia who had served 20+ years with the State. He also met with the Veterans Council and discussed their Buy a Brick Program and that the grant that they receive from the Town funds both the Memorial Day Parade and the purchase of flags for the cemeteries. He added that the Council could use the people’s support. He reviewed his meeting with U.S. Representative Courtney’s office on the Gateway project and the redesign of Exits 74 and 75. He said that the developer wants to put private money into the mix to renovate the interchanges. He said there would be a plan to host a tour of the area with Senator Dodd’s office, US Representative Courtney’s office, Senator Lieberman’s office and State Senator Stillman and Representative Jutila in attendance to familiarize them with the project. He attended the Board of Finance meeting and reminded everyone that Celebrate East Lyme is this Saturday from 3:00 p.m. – 9:00 p.m. He said his office has been receiving questions about the weather and said that we will have to play it by ear and he expected the street festival to go forward and if necessary the fireworks could be put off until the next night if the weather was really terrible. He said if there was a question; call 739-5900 the day of the event. He noted that the water supply initiative is moving forward and Wells 2A and 3B are almost done. He added that so far this summer, we have a positive supply situation and we have not experienced a day with 3 million gallons per day usage yet. He attended the COST meeting to discuss the Resident Trooper Program and added that the Troopers provide a great service but they are trying to make it better operationally. He had the organizational meeting for the Police Rules and Regulations earlier today and they would be meeting every two weeks to review the Rules and Regulations document drafted by one of the Police Sergeants. He said that their first official meeting would be on July 27th at 7:00 p.m. and an agenda would be posted. The Council of Governments had requested that he serve on a regional water committee, which will be studying interconnection of towns for water.
