With the winter holidays approaching, Care & Share of East Lyme could use a boost in food donations and helping hands for holiday giving. The food pantry, located at 12 Roxbury Road, Niantic, needs donations of turkeys, hams, stuffing, and canned items such as potatoes, vegetables, gravy, cranberry sauce and pumpkin.
Care & Share collects food donations the 1st and 3rd Saturday of each month at the pantry, between 11 a.m. and 1 p.m. While extra food is needed during the holiday season, the pantry supplies food to people in need year round.
Care & Share is a non-profit, volunteer run organization that not only provides emergency food delivery, but also financial aid, holiday food baskets and gifts, winter outerwear and linens, scholarships and camperships to residents of East Lyme and Salem.
Volunteers of all ages are always welcome, and they can assist with operating the food pantry, delivering food to families, responding to phone calls from families, assisting with events throughout the year, and preparing donated food, clothes and gifts for distribution. Currently volunteers will be needed to help with the holiday food baskets, the holiday store, wrapping gifts and deliveries.
Monthly meetings are held at the Niantic Police Department on the 1st Thursday of every month at 7 p.m. In addition, a smaller community outreach group meets at the pantry on the 3rd Wednesday of each month at 9:30 a.m.
