Fall Training In Procurement Scheduled By SBA and CT-PTAP

businessmeetingNew London:  The Connecticut District office of the Small Business Administration (SBA) and the CT Procurement Technical Assistance Program (CT-PTAP) announced their fall schedule of procurement training workshops today.  Workshops will be held starting in September at three locations within the State:  Manchester Community College, Gateway Community College (New Haven) and Three Rivers Community College (Norwich).  All workshops are free of charge and are geared to existing small businesses that wish to learn how to do business with the federal, state and local governments, the Defense Logistics Agency (DLA) and prime contractors. Doing Business with the State of Connecticut, the 169 Towns and Cities and the Metropolitan District Commission (MDC) – this workshop will outline Doing Business with the State of CT, the State’s bid portal and Supplier Diversity Program.  It will also cover how to bid on MDC contracts, key terms a supplier/contractor needs to know in order to be successful.
September 7 at Manchester Community College Arts & Education Center, 1:00pm to 3:30pm

Set-Aside Programs and Searching for Federal and State Bids – This seminar will explore the various Federal and State set-aside programs (qualifications and benefits).  Seminar will also demonstrate websites for locating federal bids over $25,000 and the State’s bid portal

November 2 at Manchester Community College Arts & Education Center,   1:00pm to 3:30pm

Registering Your Company for Eligibility to win Government Contract Awards and Marketing to Government Agencies – The Government is phasing out CCR and other online databases and replacing them with System Award Management (SAM).  This seminar will advise you about SAM and instruct you on the SAM process.  Seminar will then focus on ways in which you can promote your company to government agencies and prime government contractors.

Understanding the Defense Logistics Agency (DLA) Bid Board System (DIBBS) – This seminar will provide a brief overview of doing business with the Defense Logistics Agency (DLA)  and will focus on the Internet Bid Board System (DIBBS). DIBBS Board review will detail vendor registration guidelines, types of bids posted, DLA Collaboration Folders (cFolders), etc. Companies attending this seminar should be familiar with the federal bid process and have a general idea of topics like National Stock Numbers, CAGE codes, Federal Stock Classes, etc.

GIS Economic Gardening Program and Development Center Services:

The Department of Planning's Economic Gardening Program now hosts a powerful set of tools that local businesses can use to help their small business grow and succeed. The information contained within this set of tools is current, up-to-date information of numerous resources available to businesses, as well as a comprehensive one-stop-shop of business formation regulation information.

We have resources to help you go from idea to opening your business. The first step for any propsective business owner is to visit the Department of Planning's GIS Economic Gardening Program and Development Center. The GIS Economic Gardening and Development Center can assit you in property identification, researching demographics,  navigating the various local commissions and departments, as well as some state agencies to bring your business idea to reality.

In addtion to basic information that would need to be formally reviewed in subsequent applications, a Development Services Team, comprised of applicable Department Heads, would be assembled. The Development Services Team could then provide insight into special considerations, which should be addressed in developing thier project.

GIS Component of Economic Gardening:

Economic Gardening, first introduced in the mid 1980's, is now seeing a more prevalent use here in Connecticut. The term, "Economic Gardening", in short, means to cultivate existing business into Economic Growth in our town.

As we discussed above, with the use of our Planning Department's Geographic Information System (GIS), and other town available data, we can help your business grow and expand. From small home based businesses to larger, commercial operations, the Town of East Lyme is ready, willing and able to help you develop the tools necessary to function as a successful business.

The first step in growing or opening any business is to become educated in business. By going to school, taking classes, and getting degrees and certifications a business owner's credibility increases. Classes and conferences help new owners and existing owners to network with other businesses and agencies to get a glimpse of what the actual market will be like.
