There has been numerous thefts from unlocked vehicles over the last three weeks in the town of East Lyme. These crimes have happened in parking lots and at private residences. Please remember to always lock your vehicle and remove any valuables or lock them in your glove box.

Never assume your valuables are safe in an unlocked vehicle, even in your own driveway. Do not leave credit cards or any form of ID in your vehicle other than what is required by the Department of Motor Vehicles, such as your vehicle registration paper. Do not leave spare keys, money, check books or any item that could make you a victim of Identity theft or other crimes if these items get into the wrong hands.

These types of crimes can happen anywhere. It does not matter where you live in town as they like to move around. There is no pattern to their crimes except they take advantage of opportunity such as unlocked vehicles.

If you observe any suspicious activity please call the police immediately.
