Leaf Collection

The Director of Public Works will provide public notice of leaf collection.  Ordinarily, six weeks of collection are scheduled in the fall, an additional two weeks are held in early spring and two weeks in early summer.  Leaves must be in paper bags or in upright rigid containers weighing not more than 30 lbs.  Leaves in plastic bags are not collected.

All leaves put out for collection must be in paper bags.  Bags can be obtained at the Engineering Department in Town Hall between 8:00 a.m. and 4:00 p.m. and at the Transfer Station which is open 7:00 a.m. – 3:00 p.m. Monday through Friday and 8:00 a.m. – 12:00 p.m. on Saturday.  The charge is $.50 per bag.  Any other paper bags are also acceptable.

 

Leaves can still be brought to the designated area at the transfer station, however, plastic bags must be emptied.  Home composting and home recycling of leaves are encouraged as environmentally desirable alternatives.
